The first time I was in Queenstown it took my breath away and to this day I still think it is the most beautiful place on earth. Picturesque mountains surround this gorgeous clear blue lake, photographs can not do this amazing place justice. The colour of the water is this amazing teal blue and it glistens in the sun which is really spectacular. The atmosphere of the city is unbeatable, there is so much energy and everyone seems happy and full of joy.

This picture was taken last year. This photo is of the incredible view from the window from the house we stayed in. For my 18th birthday me and my family stayed in Queenstown and little did I know my mum had an amazing birthday surprise for me.

My best friend meet me at the airport which was such an amazing surprise. Little did I know that on my birthday I would be greeted by my extended family and family friends on the pier which was such an amazing surprise. I was not expecting to see everyone I loved coming together to celebrate my birthday it meant the world to me. We then went on the TSS Earnslaw where my mum had booked out a part of the boat for us so that we could all sit together. When we got to the restaurant we had our own exclusive area where we could all sit and eat, this room had an incredible view of the lake was very close to the food. The food was incredible and was the most amazing meal I had ever had. they had all my favourite foods. My 18th birthday was the most fun I have ever had in my entire life, I am very grateful to my parents who gave me the best day I could have ever asked for. I am so thankful for what they did for my Birthday it means the world to me and I know how much effort it took them to organise such an amazing day. It is a day I will never forget.

This week I designed a room based on the view from the house we stayed in, as this photo holds amazing memories that I will never forget. This picture fills me with joy. The scheme I put together complements the view but also captures some of the emotions of the day. The colours I chose also reflect my favourite colours which also compliment this extraordinary view.

Lounge Room

This wallpaper I think captures Queenstown's atmosphere, the imagery in this wallpaper show a vibrant happy place full of beauty and energy. The trees in the wallpaper reminded me of the tree in the photograph. The colours are true to the blues in lake waikatipo and complement this scheme. The buildings being the same colour as the landscape is also in reference to Queenstown as there are regulations one the colours of the houses as they have to blend into the scenery and not detract from the view.

I love the translucence of the fabric. This fabric has a high UV rating which is important as summer time in New Zealand means there are harsh UV rays. It is important that the fabric does not fade too quickly. This fabrics gradient resembled the green landscape surrounding lake Wakatipu and the different season from summer to winter. The sheerness of this fabric lets light in but adds a whimsical effect which contributes to the mood of the space and plays of the magic of Queenstown

Couch

The couch is a solid blue and represents the sky in the photograph. The solid blue adds brightness and injects some more colour into the space. the couch needs to be comfortable and relaxing, so the fabric chosen was Polyester. That means the couch will be comfortable to sit and also has a high UV which makes it practical in the New Zealand environment.

The cushion again plays on a more nautical water side of Queenstown and complements these blue-green colours found in the landscape. The fabric itself injects some texture and pattern to the space.

The cushion fabric chosen is this bright vibrant green which ties in with all the pillows on the couch. The visual texture is quite soft and helps break up the blue in the space. The green represents the trees in the landscape.

This cushion fabric is very graphic and I like the way it incorporates the teal in the room. The pattern itself reminds me of the peaks of the mountains as the design goes up and down randomly throughout.

Rug

New Zealand is famous for their sheep so I incorporated a sheepskin rug into the space. The rug adds an element of texture and warmth. the softness and fluffiness of it helps to break up the flatter textures of the scheme and give it more life. In Queenstown there are a lot of tourist shop and in ever single one you will find sheepskin rugs.

For the ottoman I wanted something with a sheen to it, this ottoman will catch the light and make the room look more inviting. The bright teal reminds me of the sun reflecting off the water, as do the ripples in the fabric. This Fabric also adds glamour to the room and makes it feel more luxurious. This represents the million dollar properties in Queenstown and how expensive it is to live there.

This wallpaper for the dining room adds glamour and sheen, with reflective silver and white it mimics snow falling and the ice-capped mountain that queenstown has in the winter. The wallpaper adds subtle texture to the space.
